INTRODUCTION
How can I request public records?
Many public records produced by Kane County are readily available at no charge. To request public records not available online, complete the FOIA Request Form. Completed forms may be submitted by mail or in-person to the County of Kane, Attn: FOIA Officer, 719 South Batavia Avenue, Building A (Third Floor), Geneva, IL 60134. Please specify exactly what documents you are requesting. Elected officials maintain their own FOIA Offices. You are encouraged to use the form, but are not required to do so.
What fees will be charged?
Generally, copies of the first fifty (50) pages will be provided at no cost. Copies provided thereafter are available at fifteen cents (.15) per page (or the actual cost of reproducing) after fifty (50) pages. Requestors may request the approximate fees upfront. The cost for certifying records shall not exceed One Dollars ($1.00). The above-noted fees only apply to fees not already fixed by State Statute and/or local Resolution/Ordinance. The cost of specialized documents, such as maps or oversized documents, vary by individual case. Please request an approximate fee for specialized documents. Payment can be made via cash or check to Kane County.
When will I receive a response?
If it is not possible to provide copies or allow for a complete review of the documents within five business days of the request, the requestor will be notified.
What records are available to the Public?
Many documents of the County are public records available for inspection by the general public. Commonly requested public records include:

· Ordinances and Resolutions;

· Permits and/or Contracts;

· Financial documents, including budget information; and,

· Deeds, Property Record Cards/Blockbook, and Abstracts of Assessments.
As allowed by State Law, and related case law, some records are not available for public inspection. Exceptions are typically made in cases where privacy or security issues have been judged to be of overriding importance, or were documents are not necessary to record the status and condition business carried out by the County.
