DataKane County Health Department Builds Health Data Resources

The Health Department is developing a comprehensive databook as part of its Community Health Assessment

The Kane County Health Department is currently going through its Community Health Assessment (CHA). A Community Health Assessment is a systematic approach to collect and analyze data to educate and mobilize communities, identify priorities, determine available resources, and plan actions to improve the public's health based on the needs of the community. One of the assessments within this process is known as the Community Health Status Assessment (CHSA), which gathers information on particular health issues within the community (e.g., diabetes hospitalization rates) through surveys, focus groups and available secondary data.  Contracting with Professional Research Consultants (PRC), the health department was able to survey almost 1,100 residents in Kane County and was able to conduct an analysis of the data for the county as a whole and also separate some of the data by Northern Kane, Central Kane and Southern Kane.  Eight focus groups were also conducted by PRC, the Illinois Public Health Institute and Presence Health.

April 10th Stakeholder Meeting in which data was presented to various partners within the community.

This databook gives a comprehensive analysis on the needs in the community and also specific needs based on particular planning areas.  This information, along with the other assessment conducted throughout the process, will give members of the community a strong picture of health in the county and the needs in the community to formalize partnerships to help address.  This comprehensive databook could not have been completed without the partnerships with all 5 hospitals in Kane County and the INC Board, NFP.

To view the databook and also the other assessments that have been conducted, please go to www.kanehealth.com/cha.htm.  If you would like to show you support for the initiative and be part of the CHA Stakeholder Group, please sign the online charter at http://www.kanehealth.com/charter.htm.
